4 Tips on Choosing the Best Hair Styling Tools

« 29 Nov 2008 | 2:06 | Uncategorized | Skomentuj »

Don’t Miss

When it comes to styling your hair, you know that the products you use, such as shampoos, styling gels and so on are going to make a difference in your final look, but did you know that the type of styling tools you use will have just as much of an impact on your finished look as well?

I find that many women who I talk with believe that any old styling tool works just as well as the next. I hear things such as, ‘My hair just doesn’t hold a curl’ or ‘my hair wasn’t meant to be straight’. I then ask them, did you ever think that perhaps it is not your hair but in fact the hair styling tool itself in which you are using? The response is usually that they do not want to spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars on professional hair styling tools. Of course, I let them know that there is such thing as quality hair styling tools at affordable prices.

Now, to help you out before you go looking for your new hair straightening iron or hair dryer, I have made a list of the top 4, yes, only 4, most important things to look for when purchasing a hair styling tool, and of course, I have included why these things matter and how they make a difference.

In no particular order …

1. Ceramic Heating

A Hair dryer, hair straightener or curling iron that uses ceramic heating will cause much less damage on your hair. With the different hair tools comes different benefits. Hair dryers that utilize ceramic heat make for faster drying where as curling irons and flat irons with ceramic heat ensure the penetration of the silk molecules to the hair.

2. Ionic Technology

Ionic technology produces and emits negative ions which in return work to eliminate frizz, static and smooth out the hairs cuticle. For those of you who have fine or limp hair, stay clear from your roots if you are using tools with ionic technology as this can make hair fall flat as negative ions reduce activity in the hair.

3. Temperature Selection

This feature is more important than you may think. Not only is a constant high heat not great for your hair, but we do not all have the same hair type, therefore we do not all use the same temperature setting on our hair tools. For those who have damaged, over processed and/or fragile hair, lower heat settings are much safer for your hair. If your hair is thick, coarse and over all healthy, your hair can handle a higher heat.  A higher temperature will also work much better in shaping stubborn hair. Look for hair straightening irons and curling irons with at least a high of 400°f.

When it comes to curling irons and hair straighteners I always suggest to my customers that they start on the lowest heat setting and work their way up until they find the temperature that works best for them.

As for hair dryers, temperature settings are just as important as they are beneficial. By using the cool shot button or the coolest setting on your hair for a minute or two once your hair is completely dry, you are working to seal your hairs cuticle and smooth the hair out.

4. Tourmaline

Tourmaline is a semi precious stone that is crushed and then used in styling tools to produce even more negative ions as well as far infrared heat. Far infrared heat works to heat the hair from within, causing less damage. Combined, the results are shiny, smoother, healthier hair.

To find hair styling tools that acquire these 4 features visit My Hair Styling Tools, the place where you will find Professional Hair Tools ranging from hair straighteners, hair dryers, curling irons, professional hair scissors and much more …

Fab Find: Louis Vuitton Vernis Cosmetic Bag…

« 29 Nov 2008 | 1:32 | Uncategorized | Skomentuj »

Don’t Miss

Are you going to treat yourself to something fabulous this Holiday season? If so, you might consider getting yourself a gorgeous designer cosmetic bag, like this Venis Cosmit Pouch from Louis Vuitton.

It’s $370.00 and they are not likely to have any discounts (sigh…), but this is one of those beautiful designer things we, women, will be secretly enjoying years and year after we buy them.

Do you know how I talk myself into buying fabulous things like this?

I use math and pure logic.  Just like this:

If you divide the price by 2 years’ time (and that’s the minimum you will be enjoying your precious Louis Vuitton Vernis Cosmetic Bag) - it will turn out your little splurge isn’t really that big! In fact, it will be less than 50 cents a day! For something you will be so much enjoying 2-3 times a day minimum…

So, 50 cents a day for something as fabulous as a Vernis Cosmetic Pouch by Louis Vuitton, that you will be using 2-3 or more times a day… sounds like a bargain now, doesn’t it?

12 Pros and Cons of Online Dating

Online dating is not a taboo subject anymore and people seem to take it more seriously than a few years ago. We are starting to accept online dating more and more as a genuine way to meet someone. Still, even now, many people do not take it seriously and ask themselves if it can work at all. Trust me: it can work. I have been dating someone online about seven years ago. It was a great experience at the time and we are happily married for more than 4 years now.

Like any controversial thing, online dating has many pros and many cons. Here is the way I see it.

Pros:

1. Saves time

you can meet lots of people in relatively short time

2. Focused search

You can “screen out” the people you definitely are not interested in, based on the information available online

3. You get to know a person better in a shorter time

The other way around is also true, people tend to talk more openly when they are protected by anonymity

4. Attraction is more based on who you are than looks

… this also goes both ways

5. A rejection affects you less

… than when that happens “face to face”

6. It is safe in one way

You do not need to reveal your name, address and other personal information

Cons of online dating on the next page …

10 Christmas Shopping Do’s and Don’ts

« 28 Nov 2008 | 19:50 | Uncategorized | Skomentuj »

Don’t Miss

Christmas is definitely a time for joy and lots of shopping! The malls are decorated with trees and streamers fill the air. But before you get the cash registers to ring, read these tips so you can come home as a happy customer.

Christmas shopping do’s:

1. Brand matters

Shop at good quality stores. Christmas is a time to buy gifts for others, so you don’t want to buy cheap goods that will last only a few months. Look for durable items that will remind your recipient of your love throughout the coming year.

2. Stay safe

If you’re buying online; be sure that the website has SSL technology. You definitely want your credit card information to stay secure. Further, if you don’t receive your purchased item, you can contest the charge.

3. Make a list

One way to save money this Christmas would be to prepare a list well in advance. Don’t head out to the store only with your credit card in hand. Impulse shopping can keep you up at night worrying about bills!

4. Special wrapping

Christmas gifts are more than just gifts. They reflect the sentiments of the giver. So save a little money to wrap up your gift in a special way. You can even add a customized note to each family member.

5. Discounts

They can be found at almost every store. Make best use of them! Keep your eyes open for a good bargain. However, don’t compromise on quality!

Christmas shopping don’ts:

1. Avoid weekends

If you want to avoid bumping shoulders with every other shopper then go shopping on a weekday- preferably in the morning. Salespeople are a lot friendlier when they don’t have a crowd to handle.

2. Don’t limit your choice

So you’ve made a list of items to be bought, but you can’t find one or two. What do you do? Plan for this in advance by writing a back up gift option on your list. This will save you a lot of time especially if you’re shopping for a large number of people.

3. Don’t lose receipts

Save all the receipts from your Christmas shopping expedition. You may need it later, when your gift turns out to be faulty or has a missing part. Your gift recipient will be glad you can get a replacement.

4. Don’t wrap right away

Check your item thoroughly before you thrown on the fancy wrapping paper. Also remember to remove the price tag and other purchase particulars.

5. Don’t wait

Christmas shopping doesn’t need to be restricted to December. Shop when something catches your fancy. You can store it away for Christmas day!

And most important Do:

3 Helpful Tips on Cooking Turkey…

« 27 Nov 2008 | 6:15 | Uncategorized | Skomentuj »

Don’t Miss

Pages: 1 2

With all the holidays coming, I am sure you will find these 3 Tips on Cooking Turkey very helpful:

1.  Making a Perfect Stock

Turkey is a great bird to make stock with. For a perfect stock, use turkey wings and drumsticks, and reserve other parts for the second course.

  • Rinse bony turkey parts in cold water
  • Place them in a large stainless steel stockpot with filtered water
  • Add 2 tbsp vinegar, and let stand for about 30 min. (Vinegar is added so that to draw beneficial minerals from the bones into the stock.)
  • Add to the pot coarsely chopped root vegetables, such as onions and carrots.
  • Bring to boil, remove scum that rises on top (use a slotted spoon for that)
  • Add a pinch of sea salt
  • Reduce heat to a minimum, and let simmer for 6 to 24 hours.

Remember that turkey has a stronger flavour than chicken and will profit from the addition of thyme during cooking, preferably, a couple of fresh sprigs tied together, or at least a pinch of dried thyme. The longer you cook the turkey stock, the richer, more flavourful, and more beneficial it will be.

  • About 10 min. before finishing, add a bunch of parsley.
  • When the stock is ready, remove the turkey pieces with a slotted spoon, let cool, and separate turkey meat from the bones.
  • Reserve the meat for making turkey salads, sandwiches, or curries.
  • Filter the stock into a large bowl, let cool, and reserve in your fridge until the fat rises on top and congeals.
  • Skim off the fat and reserve the stock for making wonderful soups, gravies, or sauces.

5 Tips for Wearing Headbands. This Season’s Hottest Accessory!

« 26 Nov 2008 | 23:22 | Uncategorized | Skomentuj »

Don’t Miss

Headbands are back in fashion and everyone is currently stalking them. These are great to use on a bad hair day (because hats are soooo not appropriate in the office!) and are a cute accessory. There are some great headbands that you can use whether or not you have a bad hair day! Here are some tips:

1. A little spray is good!

Hair spray is great to use especially on those thinner bands. Even if they have some type of grip underneath you should lightly spray around the headband for a good all day hold.

2. Keep it simple!

If you are wearing an amazing outfit with lots of detail keep the headband simple. You don’t want the headband to fight with your outfit for attention.

3. Play with it!

There are lots of different types of headbands to suit every mood, outfit and style. You can experiment with colors and textures to find a good look for you!

4. Bang it out!

With bangs being all the rage right now you can still work your bands with a headband. Just seperate your bangs from the rest of your hair and put the headband a bit farther back. Then style your bangs as usual.

5. Pony it up!

A headband with the scarf to tie around the back (like this one) looks great with a ponytail or messy bun. You can use a regular headband as well but the scarve gives it a little more.

Have fun with your new collection of headbands! But don’t wear them all at once! :) Stay beautiful!

2 Ways to Create The Long and Wavy Hair Style…

« 26 Nov 2008 | 3:29 | Uncategorized | Skomentuj »

Don’t Miss

Pages: 1 2 3 4

Great news, Ladies, Long and Wavy hair style is The Hair Style of 2009!

What is so great about?  Well, first of all, it’s a low maintenance do, that looks very fashionable and feminine when done the right way.  And secondly, this fabulous Long and Wavy hair trend can be easily created at home!

The Length

The medium and long length are preferable for the Long and Wavy style, but if you recently cut your hair and it’s of a shorter length, the technics for getting the natural wave described below, will work for you too!

The one and only thing to keep in mind is no matter what, your waves should look as natural as possible!

The Structure

Either you have heavy layered locks or a full lenght a-la Demie Moore (I so envy her right now), your hair will look amazing with the Long and Wavy do.  Just make sure your new wavy hair looks as effortlessly fabulous, as possible, as if you just happened to have fabulous hair…

DIY Technics

Technic 1 or The Non-Damaging Technic:

Before bedtime, mist just-washed, damp hair with a leave-in conditioner and a volume-boosting aerosol spray (an aerosol spray will dry soft, and won’t leave hair hard and crunchy). Then twirl one-inch sections of hair into spiral braids and let them dry overnight.

-”Elle” magazine

I personally love this technic for two reasons: it does not damage your hair and it’s extremely easy.  All you need is 2 minutes of your time (if even that) before you go to bed.  The only thing to remember is that the more braids you have, the smaller will be the wave, so, 1 or 2 would be perfect for that natural fashionable runway look.

10-Minute Calzones

calz

Calzone, which means ‘stocking’ or ‘trousers’ in Italian is a also called a folded or stuffed Pizza. Calzone stuffing can vary from meat to vegetables to cheeses such as Parmesan, mozzarella, Ricotta, and many others. This 10-minute Calzone recipe makes for quick, easy, healthy, and nutritious dinner. Nicknamed as a ‘readymade salad in a bag,’ if you enjoy non-fattening yet tasty food, then you’ll be hooked to this for good!

Total Prep Time: 10 minutes

Serves: 3-4

Ingredients

  • 1 (1 lb) bag frozen pizza dough, thawed
  • 1 (6 ounce) package pepperoni, chopped
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 (16 ounce) jar pasta sauce
  • Grated Parmesan cheese

How to Cook

1. Heat oven to 400. Mix pepperoni, ricotta, and mozzarella.
2. Cut the dough into quarters and shape into 4 balls. Set aside to rest 5 minutes. Then, roll or pull each ball into a 7-inch circle. The dough will fight to remain in a ball but you must win that battle!
3. Spoon 1/4 of the filling onto the centre of each circle. Fold over and pinch the edges together. Place on a baking sheet and brush with the olive oil. Bake for about 30 minutes, until golden. Meanwhile, heat the sauce, and spoon over the baked calzones. Top with the grated parmesan.
